Version 41

This is the largest patch containing new content I have published since releasing the alpha. It contains new content, improvements, and some bug fixes. The most notable changes are the new transport helicopter and military crate system, new grenade launcher weapon, and the new MP5 weapon. My plan is to shed some insight into what has been added and what has been improved in greater detail using this dev log.

The goal of the transport helicopter is to give players a shared point of interest to investigate and compete over. This is accomplished by having the helicopter randomly fly over a random flight path. As the helicopter flies over, it will occasionally drop military crates.

Military crates contain one of a few item drop loadouts. These items give the player incentive to investigate the transport helicopter and military crates. For this first iteration of the system, there are two item loadouts. One with the sniper, and the other with the new grenade launcher.

The grenade launcher is a new and extremely powerful weapon. It is so powerful in fact; you will only be able to find it and its ammo in military crates. Which are currently only dropped by the transport helicopter as mentioned above. The grenade launcher operates as you probably expect. By blowing up everything in its path.

In addition to the grenade launcher, the new MP5 was also added. The MP5 does slightly less damage than the AR15 but fires a bit faster. This weapon is more in line with the shotgun or AR15 quality wise. You will happen across it and its ammo as you scavenge the map just like other items.

In order to better express the ability to loot military crates to players, the item tooltip system was revamped. Previously item tooltips appeared in the world space floating above the item in the world. While this mostly worked, there were some notable issues with things like lighting and overall item size. To remedy these issues, the item tooltips have been moved to the screen space. This means they now appear on heads up display along with other interface elements.

Zombie walking animations have also been slightly improved with this update. Zombies previously had a lot of feet sliding when walking. The walking animation was swapped to a newer one with a more consistent stride that would work better with the way the walking animations are currently being played. The intended goal is to eventually get all the NPCs to work with root motion animations.
